Every person who comes to us for help is entitled to be treated with dignity, honesty, and respect for their privacy. These are the rights and responsibilities that guide our work together.
Individuals receiving services through the Latinos Without Borders Legal Aid Initiative are entitled to the following:
You will be treated with courtesy, respect, and compassion regardless of your immigration status, background, or circumstances.
Personal information you share is kept confidential and used only to provide the services you request, unless disclosure is required by law.
You may receive services and information in English, Spanish, French, or Haitian Creole, and may request an interpreter.
Services are provided without regard to race, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or immigration status.
You have the right to understand, in plain language, what services we can and cannot provide before you proceed.
You may request a referral to a licensed attorney at any time, and are free to seek independent legal counsel outside our network.
We will never guarantee the outcome of an immigration case or promise results that depend on a licensed attorney's or government agency's decision.
Community-based services described on our Legal Services Program page are provided without legal fees. Any attorney fee arrangement is disclosed to you directly by the attorney.
You may raise a concern or complaint about services received, without fear of retaliation, by contacting our team directly (see below).
Staff and volunteers are trained on ethical boundaries, confidentiality, and the limits of non-legal assistance.
Records are stored securely and access is limited to those who need it to provide or coordinate your services.
We work to make our services accessible to individuals with disabilities and will make reasonable accommodations upon request.
To help us serve you well, we ask that you provide accurate and complete information, keep scheduled appointments or notify us of changes, and communicate promptly with any attorney to whom you are referred. Honesty and timely communication protect your case and allow us to serve the community effectively.
Volunteers, navigators, and chaplains serving in this program are responsible for maintaining confidentiality, treating every individual with respect, staying within the boundaries of non-legal assistance, and referring any matter that requires legal judgment to a licensed attorney without delay.
Email info@lafamiliasimon.org or call 1-866 LAFASI-9. Complaints are reviewed by Foundation leadership and addressed promptly and confidentially.
